Bitef festival was founded in 1967 through the initiative of Mira Trailović and Jovan Ćirilov with the motto New Theatre Tendencies, setting out to open and raise questions about some of the most sensitive issues of the modern public sphere. Bitef yearly proposes a programme of progressive practices in contemporary performing arts for the local, regional and international audiences.
