The original work is Molière's late masterpiece "The Crafts of Scapin". "Scapin" is a re-adaptation of this classic French comedy by Kazuyoshi Kushida into a piece that we can relate to today. Is this a comedy? Is it a tragedy? People realize the bitter sadness hidden within the humor,Laughing at the hopeless tragedy. Kushida himself will play the role of Scapin, a Neapolitan servant who is smooth-talking and good at getting around in the world. It premiered in 1994 at Theatre Cocoon, where Kushida was the artistic director at the time, as the On Theatre Jiyu Gekijo. The following year in 1995, it was performed at Avignon d'Festival in France. At Matsumoto Performing Art Centre, where he was the artistic director at the time, held opening performance in 2004, and repeated performances in 2013, 2015, and 2022. In 2015, he was officially invited to the Sibiu International Theater Festival.
