Simon Mayer is performer, choreographer, musician, festival curator and workshop facilitator. He was born in Austria and studied at the Vienna State Opera Ballet School and at the Performing Arts and Research Studios in Brussels (P.A.R.T.S.). Simon was a member of the Vienna State Opera Ballet and worked amongst others for Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker / Rosas (The Song), Wim Vandekeybus (Frisking) and Zita Swoon.
As musician and singer he played and composed for/with bands in the genre between heavy metal, experimental music and folk and released several music albums. Simon s choreographic works include solos, duos, group performances, works for public spaces and opera productions which are internationally presented. He received the outstanding artist award from the Austrian Chancellery in 2017 and the Annerkennungspreis des Lande Oberösterreich in 2018.
Simon Mayer is an international guest teacher, facilitating workshops in different Festivals and Universities. His approach as teacher and facilitator focuses on full body expression, emotional expression and embodiment. In his artistic works and in his facilitating he includes his experience in the fields of contemporary- and traditional dance, breath work and vocal expression, as well as inspirations from his training in Tantra, Cognitive Trance and Mindfulness Practice. In 2019 Simon started working together with Corine Sombrun/Trance Science on his artistic creations and as cofacilitator for Self-Induced Cognitive Trance Workshops.
