Department of Drama and Theatre Studies at the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu

The proactive partnership between the local academic community and the artistic community has successfully been in place since 1997 - the year marking the setting up of the Department of Drama and Theatre Studies at the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu (LBUS). Since then, the two communities have incessantly developed and thus further contributed to creating a highly positive context for all beneficiaries and stakeholders: students, artistic community and civil society, i.e. the Department of Drama and Theatre Studies has successfully enabled LBUS to become a traditional partner of the Sibiu International Theatre Festival (ranking third in the world, based on size), of the “Radu Stanca” National Theatre (the most active theatre in Romania) and the Sibiu Performing Arts Market (a vital platform for international artistic dialogue).

The three specializations of the Department of Drama (Acting, Theater, Cultural Management and Choreography), to which are added the two master's degrees (Performing Arts in Performing Arts and Cultural Management and Entrepreneurship) have an important role in the Sibiu academic community. The projects initiated and developed by the student-actors benefit from the qualified support of the teachers who come from all fields of the curricular area of ​​Theater and Performing Arts. The artistic projects of the department are presented to the local and international public in the Theater Studio of the Center for Advanced Research in the Field of Performing Arts (CAVAS).

Also, the International Theater Festival of Sibiu, "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu, through the Department of Drama and the National Theater "Radu Stanca" organizes annually,  The Drama and Arts Management Universities Convention, the most important event in Europe, which presents to the public the reference performances of theater schools around the world. The student performances are subject to a selection process, carried out by a board of international experts, professors at prestigious universities, as well as by the Board of the Department of Theater Arts from ULBS.
